Marilyn Agliotti is an enthusiastic Ambassador of Animal Foundation Platform. Marilyn told us: ‘my love for animals is infinite and unconditional. I consider a life of an animal just as valuable as that of a man, and so all animals deserve a good care. That goes even more for stray animals, because stray-animals are not taken care of in general. They deserve better living conditions and good care!’

Marylin was born on 23 June 1979 and grew up in South Africa. From her twelfth on Marilyn plays hockey and she was so good that she played in the national team of South Africa and played at the Olympics in 2000. Marilyn moved to Netherlands in 2001. In Holland she played from 2007 for the Dutch selection at the right outside-position. In 2007 she was elected best player of Manchester in the European Championship hockey 2007 (Worldhockey Player of the Year). In 2008 they won the Gold Medal with the Dutch team in the final against China. She then won the EK hockey in 2009 and in 2010, she was second at the World Cup field hockey.

Marilyn: ‘ my love for animals is inspired by the beautiful pronunciation of Mahatma Ghandi: “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” I think this really is so. After all, animals cannot stand up for themselves and have no voice in that sense. Definitely stray animals are unfortunately so depending on the circumstances in which they end up. Strays did not volunteer to end up as strays but are strays because of us humans. People should take their responsibility to (stray) animals. Therefore, I would like to do everything to improve the circumstances of stray animals. I see it as a moral obligation to ensure for all animals that need it. ‘
